International Opportunity Programs

International students may be eligible for valuable experiential learning and employment opportunities that complement their academic studies and support their professional goals.

Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Curricular Practical Training (CPT) allows eligible F-1 students to participate in internships, cooperative education experiences, practicums, or other work opportunities that are an integral part of their academic program. CPT provides students with hands-on experience directly related to their field of study while they are completing their degree.

Optional Practical Training (OPT)

Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment authorization for eligible F-1 students that is directly related to their major area of study. Students may be eligible for up to 12 months of OPT, which can be used before completing their degree program (pre-completion OPT) or after graduation (post-completion OPT).

STEM OPT Extension

Students who earn qualifying degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields may be eligible for a 24-month extension of post-completion OPT, allowing for additional professional experience in their area of study.
