As it pertains to the 2024-25 Aid Year: We believe that all of the 2024-25 FAFSA forms received by our office were reprocessed by Federal Student Aid. While we do not anticipate there will be changes to any federal awards received or offered, we are diligently checking information sent to us by Federal Student Aid to make sure that your Financial Aid Plan is as accurate as possible. Our office will notify you if an error is found. If you have a New York State TAP award or estimate listed on your plan, you will see an increase in the TAP award amount based on the most recently passed New York State budget. (See more infomation about the changes to NYS TAP below.)

In some circumstances, there may be a change to your Financial Aid Plan during an aid year. You can view your most recent awards in the Student and Financial Aid menu in Banner Self-Service. Additionally, students and contributors who have experienced a reduction in income during the appropriate income years are encouraged to submit the Special Conditions Request Re-Evaluation of Federal Aid Eligibility, which has the potential to change your Financial Aid Plan. As a reminder, you must apply for federal and state student aid annually, so your Financial Aid Plan may change from year-to-year, as well.

You may have heard or read that, near the end of March, Federal Student Aid became aware of several instances of incorrect tax data being sent to the college(s) you applied, which could impact your Financial Aid Plan. The initial assessment of the issue showed only 20% of FAFSA applications were affected by the error. Nonetheless, we believe all of the applications we (SUNY Poly) received were reprocessed. If our office finds an application in need of correction, we will notify you (the student) via your SUNY Poly email.

The New York State Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 budget, passed in late April, promotes landmark investments in education. New York State's Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is one of the nation's largest need-based college financial aid grant programs. Since its inception in 1974, it has provided nearly $30 billion to help more than 6 million New Yorkers attend college.

The FY 2025 Enacted Budget increases the minimum TAP award from $500 to $1,000. Additionally, the Budget increases the dependent student net taxable income (NTI) limit for TAP eligibility for dependent students, independent married students, and independent single students. These changes are estimated to benefit roughly 93,000 students in public and private colleges and universities, including 48,000 students newly eligible for TAP.

Our office will begin updating TAP estimates once they become available to us, which will be reflected in your online Financial Aid Plan. (See the first question for instructions on how to view your Financial Aid Plan online.) An updated printed copy will not be mailed to new students. Note: NYS TAP is only applicable to NYS residents.

No, a TAP and/or Excelsior estimate or award allocation on your Financial Aid plan does not mean that you are automatically receiving that aid. You must apply to both NYS student aid programs.
