Either way, thanks to a recent $20 million athletics upgrade, SUNY Poly has what you need.  SUNY Poly is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA Division III), and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). The current roster of SUNY Poly sports includes mixed team golf, men's baseball, women's softball, and men's and women's teams in basketball, cross country, soccer, volleyball and lacrosse.

    Handshake enables students and alumni to search for nationwide job opportunities, internships, and co-ops. The app also facilitates career fair and workshop registration for on-campus recruitment events throughout the academic year.

    Big Interview is a tool to prepare you for an in-person or virtual interview. There are Fast Track and Mastery Track options featuring mock interview prep in different industries. Simply pick your interview questions based on level of difficulty.  The app offers guidance on the answers recruiters want to hear from you. An interviewer/avatar will ask a question and you can record your answer using your device’s webcam. You can review it yourself, share it with peers, or forward it to professional recruiters via the app for feedback.     First Hand Campus Edition provides internship, industry, profession, and company data. Thousands of jobs and internships posted daily, in addition to industry information with career development tips. Login to First Hand.

    Focus2Focus2
    Focus2 guides students through a reliable, intuitive career and education decision-making model to help choose a major, explore occupations and make informed career decisions. Suitable for every educational level, the software engages students in the career planning process to develop a plan to achieve lifelong career success and satisfaction. Create a Focus2 account using the Access Code: “wildcat”.

    Individual Appointments

    Individual appointments are available for students and alumni to meet with a professional staff member for career counseling/planning, resume and cover letter critiques, mock interviewing, and to discuss job search strategies. Students and alumni may also meet with a staff member to review self-assessment including skills, values, interests, and abilities.

     

    Walk-ins

    Career Services host walk-in hours for resume review, cover letter critique and career counseling intakes. Walk-in hours are Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. These sessions will typically last about 15-20 minutes.

    The Career Services Suite, B101, is equipped with computers for students and alumni use as well as various books and periodicals which provide employer, industry, job search, graduate school planning, and career exploration information.

    Career Services Events

    Career Services hosts two fairs each academic year. In the spring we have our Career Fair and in the fall we have our Fall Career and Internship Fair. Each event provides students and alumni the opportunity to meet perspective employers face-to-face to explore careers and to learn about full-time, part-time, internship and co-op opportunities.

     

    The Fall Career & Internship Fair is heavily focused on internships because the recruiting cycle for summer internship opportunities takes place in the fall. It also gives alumni who graduated in May the opportunity to network with employers if they weren’t successful in identifying a work opportunity and allows students potential graduating in December the opportunity to find jobs before the graduate.

     

    Mock Interview Day

    Mock Interview Day brings students and alumni to a round table networking event where an employers hold group mock interviews to help students practice, prepare and learn how to interview. This event is also considered a networking opportunity as students are paired with an employer that recruits in the industry related to the student’s major.

    Document Delivery

    • If you are a student living more than fifty miles from campus, an outreach student, or a graduate student working on a thesis or project, you qualify for a service called Document Delivery. If you need an article or book chapter that is available in print form at the SUNY Poly library, you may request it through Document Delivery and receive it in your email. You must identify yourself as an outreach student when registering for the service.

    • Cayan Library has a variety of group and individual study areas, both for quiet study and for social interactions.  The library is open 7 days a week during the fall and spring semesters, and is open extended hours for finals week.
    • Bring your food, drink, books, laptop, and come get comfortable in the library.  If you don’t have a laptop to connect to our wireless, we have plenty of Macs and PCs for you to use as well.

    About Us:

    The Center for Student Involvement helps create and support positive, out-of-classroom experiences and programs. The office works closely with student leaders to foster the development of campus clubs and organizations. In addition, the office plays a supportive role in the management of student and campus-wide events.

    The SUNY Poly Student Government - Utica (SGU) is the elected student government organization for the student body, representing both undergraduate and graduate students. Through the student activities fee, SUNY Poly SGU provides funding for student publications, a cable television station, major campus programming, clubs, and special events.

     

    Student organizations at SUNY Poly provide students with leadership opportunities and outlets for creative expression and campus involvement. Professional, academic, and special interest clubs are open to all students.  We encourage all students to become involved in the student organizations at the college!

     

    Student Clubs

    Clubs like the Black and Latin Asian Student Union (BLASU), the West Indian African Club (WIAC), and the International Student Association (ISA) provide peer support and multicultural activities for our campus community.  Student government has sponsored various clubs such as Duel Academy, Magic the Gathering Club, Cheer Club, Baja SAE Club, Poly Pride, Curling Club, Wildcats Care, Colleges Against Cancer; the Gamers Club, Anime Club, and Pool Player’s Club for students’ general interest. Allied Health Club, the Accounting & Business Club, the Biology Club, as well as student chapters of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) represent students' co-curricular interests.  Additional examples of clubs and organizations that students can become involved in are listed inSUNY Poly Engage, our app for getting active in the campus community.  Clubs are sustained by student interest and new clubs are formed every semester.  Engage is your portal to join clubs, find where they meet, and learn more about what it takes to start a club of your own on campus.

    About Us:

    The Office of  Distance Learning supports online study at SUNY Poly.  The institutionoffers several online degree programs in addition to a rich offering of online and hybrid courses spread across a variety of programs. Online and hybrid courses at SUNY Poly are delivered via the Open SUNY Blackboard Learn system.  Many in-person courses also utilize Blackboard Learn to support classroom instruction and as a depository for assignment, papers and exams.

    Student access to courses in Brightspace begins on the course start date, and ends twenty-one days after the course ends. We encourage all students to complete the D2L Brightspace Student Orientation to become familiar with the LMS platform.

    • Check your notification settings in Brightspace to ensure you are receiving all necessary information from your courses.

    ID

    • Every member of the college community (faculty, staff and students) receives a computer account, called the SITNet ID, to access computer and network resources. Your first login to the Banner system runs you through a process that activates your SITNet ID. It will be ready to use within an hour after it has been activated.

    Banner

    • Banner is the college’s student record system.  It is used by students to web-register, obtain class schedules, check grades, maintain contact information and to access other services such as financial aid.

    SUNY Poly E-mail

    • SUNY Poly uses Office 365 for campus e-mail, calendar, and contacts. Students are required to use their SUNY Poly e-mail for college related communications with offices, staff and faculty. SUNY Poly e-mail addresses end in @sunypoly.edu. Do not send confidential information like passwords, Social Security Numbers, grades via your e-mail account.

    Computer Labs

    • Open computer labs (both Windows and Macintosh) are available for students to use. Some departments have their own specialized computer labs as well.

    Classroom Instructor Stations

    • Most classrooms on campus have an instructor station and projector. Many also have multimedia capability to enable you to connect your laptop to the presentation system as well as via a standard VGA and mini-stereo plug for your particular laptop. Instructions are provided in each room.

    Wireless Connections

    • Wireless access is available in all buildings on campus. Please stop in at the ITS Helpdesk service counter to get your wireless device set up for access.

    Citrix Server

    • The applications on Citrix can be run over the Internet.

    Tutoring
    Free tutoring is available to undergraduate students in multiple subjects, including math, science, engineering, business/accounting, and computer science. All tutoring occurs in the Learning Center, located in the Cayan Library.  Appointments can be scheduled at tutoring.sunypoly.eduand instructions are found on our website.

    Online Tutoring

    The Learning Center also provides students with NetTutor, an online tutoring service. The link is available on the Learning Center website and on Blackboard.

    NetTutor provides both live and archived assistance in a range of courses. Live help is available 24 hours a day for math and writing. NetTutor offers support in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy & Physiology, Nursing & Allied Health, Languages (Spanish,French,German, Italian,Portuguese), as well as Humanities & Social Sciences.

    Poly Pantry is a campus-based food pantry available to all students to help supplement basic needs.     Vision and Operations

    SUNY Polytechnic Institute welcomes individuals with diverse abilities.  The University values diversity and provides an inclusive learning community through the Office of Accessibility Services.  The Office of Accessibility Services ensures students with disabling conditions have equal access to the complete college experience (i.e., equal access to all programs, services, and activities offered by the University).  Students with a permanent or temporary disability are encouraged to contact the Office of Accessibility Services to discuss the resources and services available to accommodate their individual needs.

     

    Disclosure of a disability and providing documentation supportive of the disabling condition is the student’s sole responsibility.  The exact nature of one’s disability is kept confidential and, although the necessary paperwork is processed by the Office of Accessibility Services, the student must disseminate his or her own adjustment plan to instructors and other necessary personnel.  Many students find disclosure useful in pursuit of their academic, social and/or personal goals at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.  Individuals may also grant permission to the Office of Accessibility Services to discuss the nature of their disability with others in pursuit of these goals.

     

    Students seeking adjustments and services must register through the Office of Accessibility Services.  Depending on the nature of their condition, students are asked to provide sufficient and complete documentation from their medical provider, psychologist, former academic institution, and/or other appropriate professionals.  Documentation must clearly identify the individual’s disability, how said disability impacts the academic environment provided by SUNY Polytechnic Institute, and recommendations for appropriate and reasonable adjustments.  Once the documentation has been reviewed by the Office of Accessibility Services, an appointment will be scheduled to discuss the request for adjustments.  Determination of appropriate and reasonable adjustments will be made using input from the student, documentation provided by the student, and with consideration of the courses in which the student is enrolled.  Adjustment plans are active for one semester only; each semester the student’s plan is reviewed and reissued if appropriate.

    The Office of Accessibility Services offers disability-specific adjustments, academic counseling, and advocacy services relevant to the needs of individuals with disabilities.  The Office of Accessibility Services also serves as a National Voter Registration site. 

     

    Services include, but are not limited to:

    • Study hall periods providing assistance individualized to the student’s disabling condition;
    • Supportive counseling related to an individual’s academic needs and goals;

    Rights and Responsibilities

    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) prohibits discrimination against students with disabling conditions.  Postsecondary institutions must comply with these nondiscrimination laws, and it is essential that students understand their rights as protected by this legislation.  An excellent resource for students with diverse abilities entitled, Students with Disabilities Preparing for Postsecondary Education: Know Your Rights and Responsibilities can be found online via the U.S. Department of Education (http://www.ed.gov/ocr/transition.html).

    Learn About Title IX

    Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681) is an all-encompassing federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance. Although Title IX is often associated with equal opportunity in athletics programs, the law is much broader and includes discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual harassment and sexual assault.
     

    “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance…” 20 U.S.C. § 1681

    Under Title IX, SUNYPolywill promptly respond to all complaints of sexual discrimination, harassment and violence. The purpose of Title IX is to protect members of the campus community from sex discrimination, to ensure reported assaults and incidents are appropriately addressed, to limit the effects of sexual discrimination on the educational environment, and to prevent its recurrence.

    About Us:
    The SUNY Poly University Police Department is a team of professionals comprised of police officers, lieutenants, a chief, civilian dispatchers, a secretary and a director of environmental health and safety.  The department works with the campus community to provide a safe environment in which the educational mission of the institution can be fully realized for all students, faculty and staff.

    All uniformed personnel are sworn police officers with full police powers who have successfully completed a New York State Municipal Police Academy. The work of the department includes crime prevention and control, criminal investigations, traffic and parking supervision, building security, emergency first-aid treatment, the maintenance of public order, and other related activities. Officers conduct foot, bike, and vehicular patrols of the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

    About Us:

    The Wellness Center provides evaluation and treatment of health-related problems for full and part-time students. The Center is staffed by a physician, nurse practitioner, registered nurses, health educator and support personnel. There are regularly scheduled hours for physician visits. Routine GYN exams are available by appointment only. The Center is open daily Monday through Friday with the hours of service posted each semester.

    The clinical staff treat medical problems and they assist students with referrals to area specialists. Students are encouraged to make appointments but can be seen on a walk-in basis as well.

    The Wellness Center provides individual health counseling and offers innovative, prevention-oriented programs and events on diet, exercise and other health-related topics throughout the year.

    Counseling Services

    Counseling services are available for all registered students. It is a confidential process designed to help students address personal and academic concerns, come to a greater understanding of oneself, and learn effective personal and interpersonal coping strategies. Our licensed mental health counselors provide short term counseling services to assist students to manage life challenges such as:

    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Homesickness
    • Grief issues
    • Eating disorders
    • Substance abuse problems
    • Unresolved or maladaptive anger
    • Problems getting along with roomates
    • Balancing personal problems with academic expectations
    • Stress
    • Relationship problems
    • Family problems

    The Counseling Center is located in the Wellness Center. Appointments are preferred and are scheduled by calling (315) 792-7172.

    Medical (Clinical) Services

    Clinical services are provided by our physician, nurse practitioner and/or registered nurses. All clinicians are sensitive to the unique needs of the traditional age as well as the non-traditional age student.

    • Medical evaluation, treatment and follow-up care
    • Sick Care: colds and other respiratory infections, rashes, ear/eye infections, fever, sore throat, etc.
    • Injury Care: sprains/strains, abrasions/cuts/bruises, minor burns, joint pain, etc.
    • Preventive health care for women and men: STD testing, GYN exams and pap smears, birth control, etc.
    • Blood/laboratory work: testing for mono, throat infections, etc.
    • Medications: prescription and over the counter
    • Medical Equipment/Supplies/Other: crutches, band-aids, cough drops, ice packs, etc.
    • Referrals: to medical specialists, community agencies, etc.

    Health Education

    SUNYPoly’shealth educator assists students with the necessary tools to experience optimal health.

    • Alcohol/substance abuse screening and education

    SUNY Poly's Auxiliary Services Corporation oversees the coordination of dining services, managed by Wildcat Hospitality, at SUNY Polytechnic Institute.
     

    Commuter Meal Plan

    • Students residing off-campus may purchase a dining plan that provides both flexibility and value.

    Residential Student Meal Plan

    • All on-campus residents are required to purchase a meal plan. There are three options that allow for a combination of a total number of meals per week + points that are equivalent to dollars.

    The Dish: Campus Center Dining Hall

    We feature a variety of dining destinations in the Campus Center, which is an all-you-care-to-eat buffet.   We also offer cereal, coffee, and dessert stations.

    • Taste of Utica: chicken riggies, Utica greens, and other local favorites
    • Under the Hood: classic grill favorites with rotating flame-grilled specials
    • Main Ingredient: a taste of home with a chef's touch
    • True Balance: an allergen-friendly solution that presents meals made without the 8 most common food allergens
    • Upper Crust: elevated paninis, sandwiches, and deli classics
    • Greens & Grains: not your average salad bar, build the salad or grain bowl of your dreams with the freshest ingredients. Add in one of our homemade soups
    • A La Mode: have a sweet tooth? We've got you covered with an impressive fresh baked treat selection, ice creams, and custom sundae toppings bar

    Student Center Food Court

    Looking for something different on campus? The student food court is your home to four of our retail brands on campus. 

    • 400 Acre Cafe is a new take on all things roasted. We've got flatbreads or you can build your own flatbread, pasta bowl, or salad with all types of cheese, proteins, and roasted toppings.
    • Limon & Chile is your destination to build your burrito, quesadilla, or tacos exactly the way you want it with fresh Tex-Mex ingredients.
    • Wildcat Grill specializes in burgers, fries, and chicken. Complete with your classics, favorites, and specials like Nashville Ranch, WCG is a campus favorite.
    • FoodLab is the newest addition and features a different menu/rotating restaurant every week. Check our schedule to see what's coming up but Foodlab can be Japanese one week, Carolina BBQ the next. This is our chef's playground and we look forward to you trying everything new at Foodlab.

    SUNY Poly’s Writing and Communications Center (WCC) looks to serve the university community by helping students build upon their working knowledge of fundamental writing and communication skills i.e., developing writing processes and developing literacy, and critical analytical skills. Offering flexible, student-centered practices and collaborative work, the WCC’s Professional Writing Consultants (PWCs) are dedicated to the center’s emphasis of ongoing, long-term improvement. Fostering collaboration with our colleagues across campus, we aim to develop and offer a student-centered, self-sustaining community that will support SUNY Poly's exploration of discipline-specific writing throughout the university.

    The WCC offers 45-minute scheduled consultations and 30-minute drop-in consultations. We also offer conferences in both face-to-face and virtual formats.
