Dawn serves as SUNY Poly’s inaugural ACE Program Director, assuming her role in April 2024. Dawn has extensive experience mentoring and coaching new teachers and students in various capacities. She’s most proud of helping her own students navigate college and feels strongly that her experience will lend itself to providing comprehensive support to SUNY Poly students. She is excited to connect with students and their families to be helpful and reassuring, especially during times of uncertainty and change.

Prior to joining us at SUNY Poly, Dawn was the Operations Manager for Utica Academy of Science (1 year) and Math Intervention Coordinator (2 years), and a Teacher & STEAM Coordinator at St. Nicholas-St. Mary’s School in Wilkes-Barre, PA (11 years). When not at work, you can find Dawn traveling, reading, walking or walking with her dog, curling, kayaking, or golfing – all of which she does alongside her family.

Originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Dawn’s found a new home in the Mohawk Valley. Dawn holds a BS in Administration of Justice from Penn State University and a MEd in Curriculum and Instruction with a Concentration in STEM from King’s College. While at King’s College, she also earned her teaching certification.

With a passion for fostering underrepresented students' achievements in STEM fields, Mya served as an Academic Advisor for the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) at Mohawk Valley Community College in 2022. In this role, she provided student-centered care management support for first-generation students from low-income households, offering guidance on admission processes, internship preparation, and transfer opportunities.

Moreover, after transitioning to Program Advisor position for the Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) at Mohawk Valley Community College in 2023, Mya engaged with middle and high school students, playing a crucial role in recruitment efforts and collaborating with program specialists on event planning and workshops. Her dedication to guiding students through the transition from high school to college is evident in her commitment to conducting weekly visits to schools, leading student activities, and assisting with college and FAFSA applications.

Now, as an ACE Academic Advisor, Mya Kyaw is excited to leverage her diverse experiences, educational background, and genuine passion for student success to guide and support students through their academic journey at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. 

Mya holds an Associate of Science in Mathematics & Science - Biology from Mohawk Valley Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences from SUNY Binghamton. Currently pursuing a master's in public health online at Boston University, Mya's educational journey reflects her dedication to continuous learning and academic excellence.

Andrea Hemmerich serves as the Director of Student Academic Success and Advising at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, where she leads initiatives that promote student success, academic progress, and effective advising. In this role, she oversees programs and services designed to help students navigate their academic journeys and achieve their educational goals. Prior to joining SUNY Poly, Andrea held positions in higher education at Finger Lakes Community College and Hamilton College, bringing with her a strong background in student support and academic advising.

Denese Savoy currently serves as the Assistant Director of Student Academic Success at SUNY Polytechnic Institute, where she contributes to student success initiatives and academic support services. She also works as an adjunct mathematics faculty member. Her role bridges advising and instruction, helping students with their academic planning and mathematical coursework.
